Figure and Portrait Workshop

This figure and portrait workshop will span four evenings and one entire day. The focus will be on the key elements of drawing, composition, form, color and color value. Two instructors will take you through the steps to creating great figure and portrait painting, beginning with drawing and culminating in painting. You will learn to use basic goof-proof tools that underlie great work. With two instructors on hand, open discussions and demonstrations offer a great opportunity to learn and master skills that make a painting great.

During the course of the week you will work from live models, both nude and costumed. You may work in the medium of your choice. The instructors will demonstrate in oil and various drawing material and offer ongoing critiques.

On the final day a model will pose to allow the completion of a painting. In this workshop you will discover good basic techniques and the joy of creating.

Students will need drawing and painting materials, including an easel. We will send a materials list upon your registration.

Dates: Monday–Thursday evenings, July 7–10 and all day Friday, July 11.

JulieSnyder is a native of Scotland living in Southern California. She studied drawing and painting at the Glasgow School of Art in the UK. Her career has spanned both sides of the Atlantic and included several years of residence in Spain. She forged her craft as an artist in advertising, publishing and the motion picture industry. Her honors include awards for her painting at the Businessmen's Art Institute Salons for 2000 and 2002 and at the Montrose-Verdugo City show in 2002.

Eddie Goral was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he graduated from the Art Center College of Design. For over twenty years he has worked as an animation artist for Disney, Warner Bros, and Sony. He has taught figure drawing in Ireland, the state of Washington, and presently at the McGroarty Arts Center in Tujunga.
